With one minute left in the game, Bergen’s guard, Jewry Hernandez hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to help Bergen Community College defeat Hudson Valley Community College 65-61 in the11th game of the NJCAA Men’s Division III Basketball Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs placed third in the tournament, while Hudson Valley placed fifth.

After trailing for most of the first half, Hudson Valley took a 25-18 lead off of a lay-up and corner three-pointer from Cameron Couball with 8 minutes to go. As the half came to a close, Bergen fought back and cut the lead down to one, going into the break 37-36.

Hudson Valley kept control of the game in the second half. The Vikings answered every score from Bergen and kept a consistent one-point lead before guard Dalton Austin-Michaud hit a lay-up to give Hudson Valley a full possession lead with just under four minutes to play. With one minute left, Bergen’s guard, Jewry Hernandez, hit a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 63-61 lead. Hudson Valley’s Ramel Alexander missed a lay-up, giving Bergen back possession with 33 seconds left. Hudson Valley’s Ian Austin-Michaud was fouled and missed two free-throws for the Vikings with 20 seconds remaining that kept the Bulldogs lead at 64-61. The Bulldogs were able to hold the lead to win the game 65-61.

Elgin Brown led Bergen with 23 points and 27 rebounds, while Jewry Hernandez added 13 points for the Bulldogs. Ramel Alexander led Hudson Valley with 15 points and 5 rebounds while Garrett Bishop contributed 13 points and 3 rebounds.
